This is one of those movies, and there seems to be more and more of them, that have many good reasons to recommend it and several to not. Natalie Portman is a good actress and Black Swan highlights her talents. The fact that she had to lose weight yet appear strong and buff only accents it. But it’s uncomfortable to watch a promising yet fragile ballerina slowly lose her grasp of reality. Is it the pressure from the company’s director? Her hovering stage mother? The young rising ballet star? All makes for an interesting story line. The ending, however, was predictable yet cheesy. We’re left wondering but maybe that’s the purpose of a good movie.
