Steve Jobs was one of those people that cannot be described in a few words. Here it took 571 pages. He was a marketing genius but a flawed human being for sure. Apple Inc. would never have accomplished what it did without him yet I doubt his leadership plan will ever be copied. Jobs was a unique entrepreneur and artist who developed amazing products during an opportune timeframe and under favorable circumstances. As Malcolm Gladwell stated in his book Outliers, success often depends on being in just the right place at the right time.
What I’ll take away from reading this biography is not to be afraid of failure. Any worthwhile pursuit involves measured risk. Steve Jobs stuck to his principals even when it wasn’t popular or lucrative.
For most of us our daily life is enriched by products created or nurtured by Jobs from the Apple IIe to the iPad, from Pixar to iTunes. Quoting Hamlet, “He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again.”
