Quilting by the Kaw

I wish I could say that the KCMQG retreat went off without a hitch last weekend, but I’d be lying.  I should have know things were falling together too easily for something NOT to happen at the last minute.  There was, shall we say, a misunderstanding with the use of the sewing room for Sunday with hotel management.  It worked out fine and we were each able to pocket $30 for our trouble.

Otherwise, Spring Hill Suites was an ideal location, modern, clean, and one block from downtown Lawrence.  Little did we know when we started planning this that the Final Four would fall during the same weekend.  Who knew that every Jayhawk fan in the midwest would converge in town just to share in the experience?

Needless to say, it was a lot of fun!  What’s not to like about sewing for hours uninterrupted?  Well, my back did complain but I tried not to listen.  We had a ton of give-aways and a couple of impromptu tutorials, as well as two awesome workshops.  You’ll have to wait to see my QR quilt from Carla’s class.  Here’s hers just to get an idea.

My layout wasn’t working so I need to take some time to fix it.  But isn’t this creative?  It was so much fun getting to know some of the guild members better.

None of this would have been possible without our awesome committee members.  Thank you Toni, especially for the ice cream and music.  Thanks, Melissa, for your patience in the face of adversity and your attention to detail.  Patty, you’re the easiest roommate ever.  Thank you for getting the prizes sorted out and arranged.

From the sewing room we could walk into the hallway and see the Kansas River. Water is so peaceful to me!

Hope we can do it again very soon!

KCMQ Guild Retreat

As I mentioned before, the KCMQG is hosting its very first retreat March 30 through April 1 at the beautifully modern Spring Hill Suites in Lawrence, Kansas.  We have been very fortunate to receive a wealth of donations to use as door prizes and for gift bags.  Here is a sneak peek…

We are planning 51 hours of unstop fun, which will not be limited to sewing!  For those readers who are participating, I won’t give away all of the surprises, but I’ve got to show the cute thread catcher everyone will receive.  Toni found the tutorial online at Sister’s Choice Quilts.

I think they’re adorable!  And oh so practical.  Toni made most of them with some donated fabric to the guild from Anna Marie Horner.  Only ten more days!   …not that I’m counting.
